It was an auspicious day on April 10, 2001. I dressed my feminine best and reported to the Brazos County Courthouse, hopeful and a bit nervous.

You see, I was changing my name, and beginning my life full-time as the woman I am/was. I was becoming my Goddess/Diva self for the first time by simple act of court - Katrina Dawn Stewart was being born.

Ten years have now passed and I am starting a new decade as a lady, a leader, and a fierce force for change. I am doing that through the passion I have in connecting with others on a personal level and sharing the sheer beauty of the gendered journeys we each walk in our lives. Your journey is not mine, yours is unique and deserves to be celebrated.

I am pulled to the work that Transgender Education Network of Texas does because they highlight and lift up that journey. TENT creates a safe space where whomever you are, whatever point you are on your path, you are welcome with open arms. TENT does this with a listening ear and educational programs sharing the wonderment of this thing we call gender with all of Texas.

Whether it is a business struggling with an employee who is transitioning, a friend seeing for the first time the wonder in what it means to be masculine, a deepening exploration of how our gendered responses may depend on the roles and contexts we find ourselves in or just a moment of zen amidst a world that states that gender must be done a certain way, Transgender Education Network of Texas is there, educating, listening, envisioning a world where each person can live out their journey fully.
